Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy at DLS Allied Health

Our Occupational Therapists (OTs) help people of all ages build the skills, confidence, and independence to take part in everyday life. Our team works with people in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities across Victoria and southern New South Wales. We tailor our services to fit their goals and daily routines.

How we help

We focus on what matters most to each person — from daily self-care and home safety to sensory regulation, emotional wellbeing, and community participation. Our OTs use practical, goal-based approaches that build on strengths and support long-term outcomes.

Common areas we assist with include:

  • Daily living and personal care skills
  • Home and community participation
  • Functional mobility and assistive technology
  • Fine and gross motor coordination
  • Sensory processing and emotional regulation
  • Routine building and executive functioning
  • Environmental modifications for accessibility and independence

Assessments and Reports

Our clinicians complete comprehensive assessments to understand each person’s abilities, goals, and support needs. Reports are written in clear, evidence-based language and align with NDIS and clinical standards. Examples include:

Functional Capacity Assessments
Evaluate a person’s ability to manage everyday tasks and participate safely at home and in the community. Often used for NDIS planning, goal setting, or to support reviews/change of circumstances.

Assistive Technology (AT) Assessments
Determine the need for equipment or technology — from mobility aids to daily living supports — including trials, justification, and detailed reports.

Home Modifications
Our OTs assess how a person moves and functions within their home environment to recommend changes that improve safety, accessibility, and independence. This may include bathroom and ramp modifications, rails, or layout adjustments. We work with builders, plan managers, and support teams to ensure recommendations meet NDIS requirements and everyday needs.

Sensory Profiles
Explore sensory preferences and challenges, helping clients and carers understand triggers and strategies for improved regulation and participation in daily activities.

How we work

Our OTs collaborate closely with participants, families, support coordinators, and other professionals. Most sessions are delivered in the community, ensuring goals are meaningful and progress happens in real-life settings.

We aim to make our reports practical, person-centred, and neuroaffirming. Every recommendation is supported by current evidence and professional reasoning.
